Just like our Members, philanthropy is a top priority at DirectEmployers. Each year, the DirectEmployers staff contributes to donation drives, volunteers at community events and participates in Habitat for Humanity projects to give back to the community we live in and beyond. While charitable giving often comes to mind during the holiday season, we decided to do something mid-year to help those in need and chose to do a summer donation drive for local nonprofit, The Julian Center.

The Julian Center is an Indianapolis-based 501(c)(3) that supports victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other life crises through counseling, safe shelter, case management, advocacy, education, transitional housing, and affordable housing, reaching nearly 6,000 survivors each year. The Center maintains a wish-list of household goods that their survivors are in need of, as they are forced to leave their homes, and their belongings, for safety. That’s where DirectEmployers comes in!

We compiled a list of items and called in the troops to contribute. With items ranging from socks and deodorant to bleach and paper plates, our staffers unloaded bags-on-bags of goods to be given to those in need. After two weeks, we had six large boxes to take to the Center. Success!

What’s next? A Fall Habitat For Humanity project and a holiday donation drive!
