The Employer Spotlight Series is an effort to showcase the employment opportunities at different DirectEmployers Member companies. Today we’re taking a look at the American Heart Association.

Founded by six cardiologists in 1924, the American Heart Association is one of the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organizations devoted to fighting cardiovascular diseases and stroke. With over 22.5 millions volunteers and supporters, American Heart Association funds innovative research, helps to fight for stronger public health policies and provide the lifesaving tools and information to save and improve lives.

American Heart Association has a mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. This mission drives every daily activity that the Association undertakes, so much so that it has over 144 local offices and nearly 2,700 employers nationwide. Since 1949, this Association has funded $3.5 billion in research–more than any organization outside of the federal government.

Currently American Health Association is working to achieve their 2020 goal, which is meant to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20%, while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20%. Through advocacy initiatives and educational resources, American Health Association is hoping to reach this goal by 2020.

Recently American Heart Association reached another milestone and was the recipient of a 2014 North America Candidate Experience Award (CandE). Through this recognition, American Heart Association has shown they were able to benchmark and improve their overall candidate experience.
