INDIANAPOLIS, November 11, 2013 /Business Wire/ — DirectEmployers Association and its member companies, some of the country’s largest employers found in the Fortune 500, are collaborating in a joint effort to embrace veteran hiring via an online job search tool, Veterans.jobs. This job portal contains over 1 million job listings and provides servicemembers with a military crosswalk tool that matches their military occupation to civilian job opportunities that best reflect that skill set.

“They have a great website, Veterans.jobs, that all veterans can go to and start to really uncover and research what some of the job opportunities are that are available to them. It’s one of the easiest interfaces I’ve seen. All you have to do is go in and enter your MOS/MOC and jobs will pop up that you might be interested in. It’s a great resource and DirectEmployers has really broken the mold on this,” commented Carey Lohrenz, the U.S. Navy’s first female F14 Tomcat Fighter Pilot.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are more than 21.2 million veterans in the American workforce. DirectEmployers and its member companies recognize the value veterans bring to their companies, and employers such as Kellogg, Phillips 66 and Express Scripts have used the .JOBS platform and military crosswalk translation tool to express their commitment to hiring our nation’s heroes.

“As an Association we strive to pay tribute to all those who served our country with pride and distinction and we do that in the form of making the connection between our member companies and veterans,” stated Bill Warren, Executive Director, DirectEmployers Association.

DirectEmployers Association is continuously working to inspire its member companies to enhance their veteran outreach through a variety of in-person and online events throughout the year. Last month, DirectEmployers’ members, partners and guests attended a two and half day veteran-focused conference, which included an in-person Veterans Connect Career fair for local veterans and transitioning servicemembers. On November 7, DirectEmployers also participated in “Veterans Helping Veterans”, an event hosted by SmartRecruiters designed to provide free career advice to unemployed and underemployed veterans.
