I’m a mom of two kiddos and our life is filled with trips to the museum, sporting events, mall, and fun activities. Sometimes, it can just be a blur. In those moments of crazy, it’s easy to forget that not all people are granted this luxury and freedom… many are without. Even though it is not always top of mind, I’m always grateful for the men and women who have served our great nation and given us peace.
A few weeks ago, I was pushing my two toddlers on the swings and made an intentional effort to absorb the moment with the quietness in the breeze and their innocent and pure laughter. Two things immediately came to mind: not every mom in the world can do this without fear and some moms never make it home from active duty.
At that moment, I realized that one day and one “thank you” video just didn’t seem like enough. So, the “I can… because of your service to our country” concept was born. We, as citizens, can take a moment to reflect and send not just a thank you but a personal message to our veterans. I didn’t want the videos to be polished, scripted or edited to perfection. They needed to be raw and filled with emotion and imperfection, just as we are…
It turns out that many of my co-workers also felt compelled to share their gratitude – all ages, walks of life, and depth but each coming from the heart. We are proud to share one each day November 1st thru the 11th in honor of Veterans Day (11/11), a day to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
My hope is for others to record their own “I can” video and upload to social. If you do so, please be sure to include #ICanBecauseofVets so veterans can search via hashtag and find them easily.
Veterans, thank you for your service and sacrifice!
May we never forget that freedom is not free.
