Whether for federal contractor requirements or general, good faith efforts, employers across the nation are dedicating their efforts to hiring veterans–and the U.S. Department of Labor is taking notice. Upon the presidential signing of the HIRE Vets Act into law in May 2017, the DOL launched the HIRE Vets Medallion Program, which recognizes employer efforts to recruit, employ, and retain veterans. Late last year they announced the winners of their inaugural demonstration program, and we were not surprised in the least to see a number of DirectEmployers Members on the list. The program is broken into two categories, Gold and Platinum, and further segmented by company size (large, medium, small). Employers interested in being recognized in 2019 can apply for this program by completing an application, paying a nominal application fee, and meeting the necessary criteria.
