We’re back with another edition of “Getting to Know“! Today we’re getting acquainted with Andy Neill, WW Talent Acquisition Leader – Analytics, and valued Board member. Learn more about this music and outdoor enthusiast and what he loves most about being a part of DirectEmployers!
Where is your office located?
I work remotely from my home office in beautiful Lake Havasu City, AZ
What does your workspace look like?
Try and keep it clean and uncluttered since I get distracted easily…
What does a day on the job look like for you?
Primarily, I spend my time with everything from headcount forecasting and metrics reporting, to presenting to our Hiring Managers, Unit CFO and VP of HR. I also lead and mentor a team of Recruitment Program Managers and help them implement creative processes and programs to aid in the recruitment of IT and Sales talent globally.
How do you get your day started?
I drink COPIOUS amounts of iced tea to get my day going; whether I’m home or on the road. This sometimes becomes a problem if I am overseas and there is none readily accessible.
What is your favorite social media platform and why?
I am a LinkedIn fan; I feel it is the most professional and I’ve been using it since it’s inception.
iPhone or Android – what kind of phone do you have?
iPhone – but I am unbiased when it comes to cell phone brands.
What is the background photo on your phone?
It’s a picture of my two year old Owen and I in Williams, AZ with an old fashioned train in the background. I’m wearing an Arizona Cardinals jersey (GO CARDS!) and my wife put a cool black and white retro type of filter on the pic.
What’s your favorite HR blog/resource?
Why, it’s the DirectEmployers blog and updates, of course!
What do you like to do for fun?
I like to play with my son, hike, swim, and coach youth sports (football, basketball, & baseball).
Do you listen to music while you work? If so, what do you listen to?
Absolutely, I can’t function without it – I listen to everything (literally) but rotate between: classical, Sinatra/Rat Pack lounge music, old school Country, and 80’s hairbands.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
I love the flexibility of living where I want to live, the opportunity to lead and mentor others, and the high level visibility of presenting and working with executives daily.
What tech gadgets can’t you live without?
I still just enjoy accessing the internet anywhere in the world from my cell phone.
Last movie you watched?
“Trolls” – saw it with my 2 year old, it was his very first movie and the first one I’ve seen literally in 8 years (I’m not a big “new” movie guy).
Last book you read?
“Neoplatonism: Iamblicus on the Mysteries” – boring, huh?
Best job advice you ever received?
To work hard and never get discouraged because “you never know who is watching”. Too often we get down because things aren’t happening exactly like we want, or fast enough in some cases; however this quote just reminds me that things can turn quickly for the good if you establish a reputation for doing good work or being a good person.
What is your non-HR dream job?
To continue to see the world and all of it’s wonders – I’ve already walked on the Great Wall of China, hiked and rafted the Grand Canyon, body surfed in Hawaii, drank Beer in Germany, explored fine museums, and I can’t wait to see what else I can experience.
What’s your favorite thing about being a member of the DirectEmployers Board of Directors?
The ability to share best practices and leverage the collective insight of my fellow Board members to help me solve problems.
What is your favorite thing about attending DEAM?
I love the camaraderie it builds with the Board and DE Members. I also appreciate the forum companies and professionals are granted to showcase accomplishments they’re proud of.
Pretty cool guy, huh? Thanks for letting us learn more about you, Andy! Add him to your network in our Member-exclusive community, Connect, and on LinkedIn – and then come back tomorrow for another interview!
