Cape Fear Business News – Washington, D.C. – August 11, 2009 — With the unemployment rate approaching 10%, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) has galvanized the business community for a national economic recovery campaign called “Together For Recovery” (TFR). TFR features more than 250 resources to help individuals find a job, make their mortgage payment, and access healthcare assistance, including a timely partnership with IBM’s Jobs4Recovery.
“A lot of Americans are facing real economic problems and businesses are ready to be part of the solution,” said Stephen Jordan, executive director of BCLC. “Jobs4Recovery is an example of how civic-minded businesses are using their assets and talents to make a difference, even in this difficult time.”
More than 41,000 jobs nationwide are currently available in the Jobs4Recovery database, powered by the Direct Employers Association and Indeed.com. Additional job listings will be added as BCLC introduces the tool to the nation’s thousands of local chambers of commerce executives, who can feature job openings in their communities at no cost.
The U.S. Chamber’s TFR initiative also features resources for small businesses to start-up, stay-up, and grow-up, with various small business toolkits featured in the Business Knowledge Center. Additionally, individuals who need immediate help can use TFR to access the United Way AIRS’s 2-1-1 service, and those who wish to volunteer and help a neighbor in need can use TFR to access the Points of Light Institute HandsOn Network’s volunteerism capabilities.
“Americans want to know where they can turn for help,” Jordan said. “Together For Recovery is designed to be a starting point for helping people and businesses help themselves.”
