With the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) and the Jobs for Veterans Act (JVA) still firmly in place despite recent regulatory changes that have narrowed the compliance focus, federal contractors’ dedication to veteran hiring is more important than ever. And while many employers deploy efforts focused on attracting, hiring, and retaining these individuals, others are going one step further to prove their dedication to job seekers in the form of military-focused certifications and awards. One such recognition is the U.S. Department of Labor’s HIRE Vets Medallion Award – and applications are currently being accepted.
Established under The Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017, the HIRE Vets Medallion program recognizes employer efforts to recruit, employ, and retain veterans. Divided in three categories based on company size, employers who meet the program criteria are then divided further into platinum and gold status and awarded a Medallion to display amongst their employer branding.
Since its establishment, more than 1,650 employers have earned Medallion awards, including many DirectEmployers Members – and the list grows each year (see last year’s Association winners)! We encourage employers to view the program criteria and timeline and consider applying for this great honor. Applications are being accepted through April 30th and winners will be notified in October. Celebrating companies’ commitment to veteran hiring, retention, and professional development is truly something to celebrate!
