Today the 2017 Annual Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) hiring benchmark was updated on the VEVRAA Benchmark Database. The benchmark – 6.7 percent – is effective March 31, 2017.
Contractors who adopted the previous year’s national benchmark of 6.9 percent after March 4, 2016, but prior to this announcement, may keep their benchmark at 6.9 percent.
Upon being notified of these changes, Executive Director Candee Chambers commented, “While the US Department of Labor has today reported that the availability of veterans available to U.S. employers to hire has shrunk to 6.7%, we are more heartened by last week’s report that the unemployment rate of U.S. veterans has shrunk to only 4.3%. We are very proud that our National Labor Exchange (NLx) jobs delivery system, which delivers an average 2.1 million jobs to state workforce agencies throughout the country every day, including primarily veteran “Priority Hiring Referral” requests, helps drive the country’s strong record of veterans hires.”
