While a military crosswalk is a good starting point for your veteran and military hiring initiatives, it is not the sole solution. Here are a few tips around military outreach to help transitioning military job seekers find the appropriate position for their skills and experience while using your microsite.
√ Advertise your veteran hiring events
√ If requirements are met, add the “Veteran Friendly Employer” badge (vetfriendly.com)
√ Create hotspots on your microsite banner with facts about your veteran programs/initiatives/hiring statistics
√ Join the waiting list to sponsor Veterans.jobs and feature your job opportunities
√ Create static pages with information relevant to veterans and your initiatives
√ Check your job listings and make sure descriptions are accurate and contain many relevant keywords
√ Provide vet-friendly materials and videos
√ Provide a point of contact within your organizations for veterans seeking assistance
√ Ask veterans for feedback on your site
√ Direct veterans to company-specific veteran resource groups and blogs
√ Provide third party resources that may be helpful to veterans in their job search
√ Reference any relevant awards or designations
√ Become a featured employer on Veterans.jobs
The goal is to assist those who have served our country, whether they are a good fit for your company or another. So be resourceful, be helpful, and be creative with your military outreach for best results!
