Pardon the cliché, but it really is hard to believe the DirectEmployers 2013 Annual Meeting & Conference (DEAM13) is next month. Increasing educational content every year is always a goal, however we also focus on growing our social media presence and chatter. Social media is beneficial to incorporate within DEAM13 for several reasons:

  • Helps you stay on top of other tracks or sessions you couldn’t attend.
  • Keeps you connected to peers and new friends after the event is over.
  • Provides you another avenue to join conversations during the conference.
  • Enables you to be the first to know of any special events, changes or important updates around the conference. For example, you might see a reminder posted about the room block deadline expiring on September 30!

Whether you’re a newbie or social media junkie, we look at it as the more the merrier. Here is a field guide to social media at DEAM13:

Use the hashtag #DEAM13 on all social media posts. You may not realize it but Twitter isn’t the only social network that recognizes hashtags – LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest do too. Be sure to include the hashtag on any DEAM13 posts! If you’re not familiar with hashtags, email socialmedia@directemployers.org and we’ll be happy to give you a quick overview on how they work.

We’ll also have our Twitter wall up during DEAM13, so you have an opportunity to make it on the big screen.

Join the DEAM LinkedIn and DEAM Pipeline groups. We have created groups on LinkedIn and Pipeline to provide attendees a way to network in advance, during and after the conference, in addition to receive updates on sessions, logistics and other notifications. Both groups are also a great place to post questions you may have about the event, or post what you’re hoping to learn, and share your excitement for DEAM13.

Attend the DEAM13 Online Networking Event. Using the Brazen Careerist platform, this pre-conference online networking event is similar to our virtual career fairs, only you’ll be meeting with fellow attendees instead. During this live event, you can share your biggest challenges, what you’re hoping to gain out of DEAM13 and even find a conference buddy to hang with if you’re attending solo. Share your photos. We have a photo gallery in Pipeline and a Flickr account. While there will be photographers capturing the event, we like to see DEAM from our attendee’s perspective. Be sure to post your pictures in Pipeline, or send them to us at socialmedia@directemployers.org and we’ll post to the DEAM13 set on Flickr. We’re also on Instagram, so don’t forget to tag DirectEmployers and include the #DEAM13 hashtag. Take advantage of our text alerts. Similar to last year, attendees can opt-in to receive text message updates about DEAM13. To subscribe, text DEAM13 to 55678.
